Communicating any message in today’s fast-paced world is a challenge, none more so than safety messages which, let’s face it, aren’t always the easiest thing in the world to sell. This presentation will cover some of the difficulties faced in the world of public safety advertising and will show how they have been overcome and what lessons can be learned in the occupational health and safety setting from a multi-international-award-winning public advertising campaign. Owen Wilson is the Networks Safety Manager with Gas Networks Ireland, the natural gas network operator in the Republic of Ireland. Owen has a degree in Civil and Structural Engineering, and worked for 8 years as a pipeline and subsea engineering consultant in the North Sea oil and gas industry before moving to Ireland in 2004 to work for Gas Networks Ireland (formerly Bord Gáis Networks) where he now manages a team of occupational and process safety specialists providing advice, support and assurance functions to the organisation, as well as managing Gas Networks Ireland’s public safety promotion and awareness campaigns.
